Here is the bike route of the 2021 Sundown Siren Protest Ride. It’s approximately 20 miles long with about 5K feet of climbing. This will be a big day with lots of pain.
During the ride we will think about the ancestors of the Washoe people who traveled similar routes going back 200 generations or more.
The Washoe still live next to their beloved Lake Tahoe but now they must listen to a racist sundown siren every evening. The Minden 6pm Siren is a nightly reminder that “their kind” was not always welcome in certain parts of the Lake Tahoe Basin.
The Minden town fathers have said their 6pm siren no longer has anything to do with the Washoe. They claim the 6pm siren has been repurposed. “Now the nightly siren honors first responders,” they say.

If you are an expert mountain biker who is willing to suffer for a good cause here you go. We will raise money for Washoe outdoor youth programs and register our peaceful discontent with the Minden sundown siren.
